Our Programs

People first, always

The Hwb is more than a building. It is a safe, welcoming place where people connect, grow in confidence and find support when life is hard.

Our purpose

Connected, healthy, resilient, vibrant

More than 23 different activities and services run from the Hwb — clubs, classes, sport, learning, events, wellbeing groups and practical help. Five commitments guide everything we do.

SO1

Building connected, healthy and resilient communities

Bringing people together through accessible venues, services, activities and partnerships that improve health and wellbeing, reduce isolation and strengthen community connection, belonging and resilience.

SO2

Creating a sustainable organisation and community assets

Developing a financially, environmentally and operationally sustainable organisation and community facilities, including the community centre and café, that generate income, use resources effectively and continue responding to community needs for the long term.

SO3

Growing volunteering, participation and community ownership

Creating meaningful opportunities for people to volunteer, participate, develop skills and confidence, influence decisions and take an active role in their communities.

SO4

Improving outcomes for children, young people and families

Providing accessible opportunities, activities and support that strengthen wellbeing, relationships, confidence, skills and resilience, enabling children, young people and families to thrive.

SO5

Supporting older people to stay connected, active and independent

Creating opportunities for older people to remain active, connected and involved in community life, reducing loneliness and isolation and supporting wellbeing and independence.

New for 2026

HWB Coffee Bar

Great coffee with a bigger purpose.

Our brand-new coffee bar is the front room of the community: a place to meet a friend, warm up after the school run, work away from home or just enjoy a good cup of something. It runs as a social enterprise — every sale supports the charity’s work under this roof.

It is also our Community Connections space, where anyone can find a friendly face, information and a route to support. If you do not know where to start, start here.

Practical help

HWB FoodShare

No one in our community should face the cost of living alone.

FoodShare runs from our annex building and supports hundreds of local families every year with food and cost-of-living help, with warmth, dignity and no judgement. Alongside food we connect people to advice, services and each other.

Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm
The annex building beside the playground, Woodland Road. Closed on bank holidays; check Facebook for changes.

  1. Come along during opening hours. You do not need a referral or a voucher.
  2. Have a chat with a volunteer. Tell us a little about your household so we can put together what suits you.
  3. Take home a shopping bag. Fresh, chilled and store-cupboard food, toiletries and household basics when we have them.
  4. Ask about anything else. Benefits, energy bills, debt, housing: we can point you to the right people.
